Testing, 1, 2, Testing

Blogger recently added the feature of uploading video directly into these posts. So I thought I would test it out with an older, low-res, yet still incredibly delicious chicken recipe I previously posted using the standard YouTube embed. I'm curious if there is a big difference in quality. The other obvious advantage is I could post videos that would only be available to visitors of this blog, since I could avoid the need to upload to video sharing sites first, just to get the flash embed code.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, don't feel bad, I'm not that sure either. Anyway, we are basically comparing the two clips. Any and all input is welcome, especially from tech nerds.

Here is the blogger video upload of The "Ultimate" Roast Chicken at same size as the YouTube version:

Here is the regular YouTube flash embed of the same clip:

Well, so what do you think?

Well, the quality looks exactly the same to me. It's nice not have the YT logo on the screen. And, as I said I can host clips here without having to post to another site.

I made the blogger video the same size as the YT clip. It actually comes in a bit smaller which looks sharper. Maybe I'll post that one too.

I posted the original size clip from the blogger upload below. It looks sharper, but that's just because its smaller. So I guess the question is, smaller and sharper, or larger and not as sharp?

Same size as the YT, but I actually think the contrast and the resolution is a tiny bit better on the blogger upload.

So go for that!

There is definitely an equation here. If you're talking extremes : Ultra-sharp but ultra small would be, to me, much more unattractive to look at than the bigger but blurrier version (of course, there is a limit to that too). I personally don't think that the blurriness is really bad enough to justify making it any smaller.

Also, you may want to keep some type of YouTube connection, as that is the way that I (and many more?) have come across you at all. I always liked your idea of sucking people in to your site to get the ingredients amounts. Very smart. It hooked me!

But I've been wrong about many, many, many things. Just ask my girlfriend...

Thanks for the input. I still would post to the other vid sharing sites like YT and ifood to snare new prey. But I would do maybe once a week on those sites and then a quick tease of what they were missing on the site. Thanks!

It's weird listening to you twice at once. "C-commppoundd B-buut-terrr." It's a tad brighter on the blogger one.

Haha!!

Anyway, either YT or Blogger is fine to me, but I definitely like the bigger size better.

I vote for either of the bigger versions.

I like the blogger video too. It does seem slightly sharper. Will we be able to save them to our computers?

Funny you should ask about downloading, dandelion. I'm not sure if you can (or should) download the clips to your hard disk. But, I've been playing around with iDVD software on the mac and may put the the archived clips on dvds and sell them (for a very affordable price) to help support the site. I was planning to do a post about that idea soon. Stay tuned.

I, too, prefer the larger version plus You Tube comes in with fewer dips or whatever you call it when the video stops for a moment or two.

I don't know how to downloaded any of your videos. I usually mark the You Tube address though for reference. Let me know when those clips are available. THX

You dont need the YT address All the clips are archived on the blog on the side bar.

My only lament is that I couldn't wait to try this until after the sauce recipe was posted here. "Best Ever" was spoken by myself, my girlfriend, and another friend who stopped over just after we finished eating. I thought there was going to be half of it left but the two ladies kept picking at it, oh well I can always make it again tonight!!!

As you said, the only reason the smaller one looks crisper is because it's shrunken down. It's much more annoying to look at the tiny postage stamp size, and besides, this clip, I think, is an old one made with your old camera. The new camera provides a much crisper picture at the regular YouTube size.

As for where to upload, having the videos available on YouTube allows other people to embed and share your videos into other sites, such as VideoSift or their own blogs, which provides you with more advertising and redirected traffic for your own site. I think you should stick to YouTube for this very important reason. The fact that you post the ingredients in the blog is an ingenious way of ensuring that they will come this way when they see the video somewhere else.

The difference I see in the three Videos is the “blogger video upload of The "Ultimate" Roast Chicken” (the bottom one) is sharper than the other two. However, it took a little longer to download but not enough to be annoying. Though a smaller screen size, I liked the look. The colors “seemed” brighter and denser (but that could be my monitor). The YouTube version looks a little washed out, color is not so crisp and bright.

I like number 2 best simply because 1 and 3 don't show up at all since I'm on an iPad.
