In Memoriam: Tastespotting.com

It was the premiere photographic food porn gallery on the Internet. Many of you probably found this site by clicking on a photo linked to one of my videos. It was a place where the hardest, of the hardcore foodies went to see, and be seen. And now, it's gone.

I've posted the austere note that now inhabits the homepage once filled with the most beautiful food on the web. Why anyone would threaten legal action on such a sight is beyond comprehension. I'm sure photos were posted without permission, but since the photos all linked back to the website they were from, so what?

If anyone knows anything about this situation, please comment. If anyone knows of plans to start another tastespotting-esque site, please let me know. The foodiesphere has lost a great friend.

I hope that site comes back one day. I would literally spend hours just looking at all the food photos and never really could decide on what to make for dinner. I just wanted to try making all of them!

Found your website via Tastespotting.com a while ago. Love that website and yours, of course. The new site for food porn is foodgawker.com. Let's hope tastespotting will be back!

Do you know the reason why lawyers should be burried 600 feet under?

Someone left a comment on another blog saying they will work on starting a similar thread at their current recipe-magazine-type site called recipes2share.com...I glanced, it seems to have potential. However, Tastespotting will be hard to replace. Perhaps the person who had it will come up with another way. After all, we know what happened to the original music download people and look at the "free" sites go now! I'm sad because I JUST found Tastespotting recently and was soooo excited! I had told my husband I wished there was a website like that, and then there it was! It will be missed by a lot of people, the internet is buzzing. I Googled "what happened to Tastespotting?"...tons of hits!

So sad that I've only found out about the site since hearing it's closed down!

I have been a tastespotting junkie since almost day one. I love it and am so sad it is gone. I would give the site out to many people I met and wold visit it many, many times a day myself. What a sad world we live in where we cannot appreciate each other's food, recipes, love of culinary skills and amazing food related photos without a "legal battle" somehow ensuing.

R.I.P tastespotting - you will be sorely missed.

Ooops...I didn't mean *thread* I meant that they said they'd consider working on something "like" TasteSpotting at recipes2share if there seemed to be a market for it. Several people responded with, "yes, please!"...Sorry for any possible confusion in my previous post! So much for early morning previews! lol

The photo with Chef John holding the small piece of Parmesan cheese in front of his Chicken Cannelloni (crepes) was featured on Tastespotting.com the very last day the site was up. I remember seeing dozens of Food Wishes recipes featured there. Let's hope it returns, or some form of Tastespotting.com comes forward to fill the void left on the internet.
