Happy Birthday Michele! I'd like to Make a Toast...

It's my wife Michele's birthday today, and this is a photo of her pumpkin bread French toast breakfast. If you think the pumpkin bread looked good, wait until you use the leftovers for French toast! Unreal. This would make the perfect day-after-thanksgiving breakfast before you take off for the mall to not spend money.

We're off to celebrate, and the San Francisco weather could not be nicer - we are having an unusual fall heat wave and it's going to be in the seventies today! Enjoy your weekend, and just in case you missed it, below you will see my patented method for the best French toast ever. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
6 thick slice of French bread (or homemade pumpkin bread)
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
butter for frying
maple syrup?

We hope your birthday is as glorious as the weather today! You are, Michele, ma belle, the warm French "toast" of our hearts.

Love, Mom & Dad

PS -Any chance we could have the same yummy breakfast sometime soon?

Hi Chef John -

I super love your site and I make recipes from it all the time. Everyone is always impressed when I make them one of your recipes - and I ALWAYS tell them where I got the recipe and I demand that they go to your site for more yumminess.

Today is also my birthday - Happy birthday to Michele - and I think I'm going to demand that someone makes me this french toast... even if it's for dinner!!! It looks soooo good!

Happy Birthday! And, I hope all your demands are met.

I think I will make some bread just to make your french toast. You didn't say the temp of the oven. Is it 350degrees? Also is that your oven? No Viking range?

Happy happy birthday to Michele! I made your french toast when you originally posted the recipe and it was DELICIOUS. It actually came out like REAL french toast (I could never figure out what I was doing wrong before)!

The pumpkin bread recipe looks great, and I'm definitely going to try it, along with using it for french toast. I can't wait!

I just made thisfor my family. I didn't realize how quick and easy it was to make french toast! I did cheat a little bit though. I used eggnog in place of milk and spices. I added two eggs to 3/4 cup of eggnog and followed the rest of the recipe. Talk about wow!! Plus it was a great way to use up the last of eggnog. Thanks Chef John for all you do. It's greatly appreciated and I'm sure many families are thankful as well. Have a wonderful New Year!

Just made this for my wife. It was fantastic! Also had some fresh cherries with it. I recommend this recipe!

Maple Syrup? While they are not donuts, they are not pancakes! French toast is properly served with powered sugar and cinnamon, NOT syrup.

Chef John said...

yes, in America, French toast is properly served with syrup.
