My Rocky Mountain Reality Check

I landed safely in Aspen last night, just as the sun was disappearing behind the mountains. Upon arriving, I called the hotel to have someone drive out and pick me up. A polite young man was there in minutes, and as we drove from the airport to Snowmass, a small ski village outside of Aspen, I asked him, "have you picked up many famous chefs yet?"

He said, "No, they don't stay where you're going."

So, it's a dump? Or, just not an exclusive posh hotel? Hey, how much of your waking hours do you plan to spend in your room, anyway. You'll be with the "famous" chefs, while they're doing their "thing" with food, and that's where your "accommodations" really count. Go Press Pass! Go Chef John! You've got your eye on my Rocky Mountain high.

Yeah, but Snowmass is pretty awesome in its own right. Better scenery, really, than Aspen, in my opinion. We used to go out there for the IDCA (International Design Conference in Aspen) for a number of summers, as well as skiing in winter. Take a trip up to Maroon Bells if you have time.

Have fun!! (It won't be hard.)

A true gem! lol

What he meant was that where you're staying is much too exclusive for them!

Wow. I think I know that guy who drove you. I saw him in a Marx Brothers movie once. I think his name was Chico. Or at least it sounds amazingly like something Chico would say.

Did you get his name?

You might have said to him, "do you want my autograph then?"

There is a story with Richard Feynman serving on the Challenger Shuttle Disaster Presidential Committee. A limo driver politely whispered to him if it was OK to ask for an autograph. Feynman smiled in delight and said "its really no problem" and the driver said "Just point me to Neil Armstrong and I will ask him for the autograph"

Of course you told him that they do stay where you are going and that the next time he was asked that he could say, "Yes." Who could be a more famous chef than Chef John?

I am certainly no chef, but thanks to you, I am a pretty competent home cook. You ARE a celebrity chef at my house. My wife often asks "Oh, is this the new Chef John recipe?" Keep it up, chef. You're doing a great job.
