Why Fried Gnocchi is a Bad Idea

They say timing is everything, and that was certainly the case this morning. Due to a blur of licensing contracts, book proposals, travel arrangements, and other less-than-enjoyable administrative duties, I was in serious need of a chuckle. Well, this video sent to me via @mysticl on Twitter sure took care of that! I hope you love this guy's laugh as much as I did. This is from Webstaurantstore's YouTube channel. Enjoy!

yes, this is cool
but where are the promised garlic spaghetti?

OMG this made my day.

This made me think though that in Spain we have some kind of croquettes that if you bake too low and slow, will open up, so perhaps that was the guy's logic :P

lol! why does it pop like that?

Never mind that these gnocchi's become dangerously hot projectiles ... but seriously ... Buffalo Gnocchi? Right up there with the Twinkie Del Mar recipe.

It pops because the outside is sealed and the moisture boils inside expanding as steam. This is hilarious so clearly it was a great idea, for the blog anyway.

Chef John you are 100% right about timing! I was sitting here feeling really depressed because I just received some bad news, but watching this video I couldn't help but to laugh out loud! Thanks for lifting my spirits :~)

Glad everyone liked it! When I laugh out loud when I am alone in a room surfing the web, I KNOW it's time to share with someone and considering the topic I was pretty sure you'd get a kick out of it. Funniest laugh EVER! Thanks Chef John!

I AM LAUGH/CRYING HYSTERICALLY RIGHT NOW. THANKS FOR MAKING MY AFTERNOON!

I think the gnocchi were running away from the buffalo sauce as any self respecting gnocco would.

This is a funny vid, but we fry gnocchi a half-dozen times a year. I've never seen one explode like that. Did they put popcorn in their gnocchi?
