Coming Soon: Panda Wings?

I'm about to air a video for, "Panda Wings." As the name suggests, this will be another fabulous addition to our award-winning collection of chicken wing recipe videos. The "panda" part comes from the fact that the spicy orange glaze you see glistening here, is inspired by the most popular entree at the popular Chinese fast food chain, Panda Express.

So, can I use this name? Will I get letters from their lawyers? Are you a trademark attorney, or at least play one on the Internet? I'd love to hear what you think!

Goshi...that is a bad name indeed. Panda equals a mixture of black and white while this one is totally not.

Looks awesome, and can't wait...I need something new to serve when the Jets make it to the superbowl...I made your honey mustard wings at the jets-colts game, and then I just made your Clifton Springs Wings for the Jets-Pats game, so whatever you're doing must be good luck!
Thanks, and go Jets

Well....hmmm....let's see....maybe if the topic comes up again, you can just say that "Panda" was your nick name for your great grandmother (she was so cuddly!) and she used to make these kinds of yummy wings all of the time, so the name is a tribute to her...."Panda Express? Never heard of it!"

I am so happy about this.

I was a little worried at first there when I saw that title of the post. I was wondering how you were getting your hands on some fresh panda...

Looks like a great recipe though and I'll have to try this with some Pleasoning Seasoning and some other added flavors that I enjoy. Thanks for such a great recipe, please keep them coming!

Denise, you should do a search for "Winter Lasagna", he posted it on Nov. 9
Great lookin' wings! You should keep the name if you can.
I ordered your book, it seems to be very well made and has plenty of recipes I've been meaning to try. I can't believe they didn't use your onion rings picture because I know they won't look like that!

Like I say when I walk into every Panda Express--why is there no Panda meat on the menu? Look forward to your new recipe!

I don't care what you call them, I'm just waiting to make them! They really do look delicious and, as much as I love chicken wings of all kinds, it'll be nice to add a new flavor to the roster.

So, Panda Wings, Chicken Bell, McOrange Wings, Chicken Wing King, or Kentucky Wing Zings... who cares? Let's eat!

too bad you are striving to panda express quality. You are bettter than that. right?

Chef John said...

lol, yes, one day, if I continue to work hard, maybe I'll somehow get close to the quality of Panda Express. That is what I've always strived for.

Some of these comments are, excuse the bluntness, self-righteous. There are great flavors to be found everywhere. And I doubt there isn't a person here who doesn't eat fast food once in awhile. Good food and great flavors don't have to be "gourmet."

Neither do chefs. What I appreciate most about Chef John's videos is that he's NOT pretentious. He's not snobby about food. He makes good food with great flavors and with sincere enthusiasm.

Chances are you won't like every recipe any chef makes. The kind thing to do is appreciate the ones you do enjoy and quietly pass by the ones you don't. Just because a negative thought comes to mind doesn't mean you have to say it. Imagine that!

Panda Wings is a very cute name, when will you make Koala Wings?

You're using Chinese seasonings to influence taste of the sauce for these chicken wings. Pandas bring to mind China, and therefore wouldn't necessarily be any sort of reflection on the Fast Food Restaurant. I think it's a darling name, and I believe that as long as you're not marketing a product called Panda Wings, you should be fine. You could have done whatever you wanted with the name prior to posting here that Panda Express was the name's source!
Congratulations on the Tasty!!!

I was tagged to bring chicken wings to our Superbowl gathering, and these look much better/more interesting than going the tried and true Anchor Bar wanna be's I'm usually making. Question, though...when making the oven 'fried' wings portion, did you marinate in Frank's Hot Sauce as before, or just salt-n-pepper before flouring? Your reply and sage advice will be much appreciated.

just s and p, but you could and it would probably be good!

Hi there! My name is Narno Díaz, I'm from Tuxtla Gitiérrez, chiapas, Mexico, very far from where you are, but I got subscribed to this page because I love cooking. And I try this recipe two christmases ago, and they were delicious.Every body liked it. But I remember using instead of the regular hoising sauce, I tried the alternative of it that is made the hosin sauce with peanut butter, and gave it an spectacular flavor, the peanut, really gave it something extra. I Thing I got the recipe for the hoising sauce from you too, but some how I lost it and I realy want to make this recipe again, and I would love for you to, please, post in one more time. Thanks a lot from México. My best wishes for you and your family for the 2015. Thanks again.
