How to Cut a Sandwich Like Bobby Flay

I'd like to start by saying this video demonstration on how to cut a sandwich like Bobby Flay may be the most anti-climatic video we've ever done. After the big build up I did in my Hellmann's Club Sandwich post a few months ago, about this revolutionary technique, something tells me the vast majority of viewers may be underwhelmed.

Regardless, I think it's kind of a neat trick, and an interesting glimpse into how the mind of a chef works. Even something as basic as cutting a sandwich in half can be optimized for maximum effect. Thanks, Chef Flay. Enjoy!

Disclosure: This post was created in connection with my appointment as an Ambassador in Hellmann’s Club Sandwich Program.

There's too much hate already in the sandwich world, we don't need more bias.

I'm leaving now before you boo me.

My daughter's next grilled cheese sandwich will definitely be cut on the bias! ;)

I loved the video that followed yours, and I wanted to recommend it to everyone.
The ideas covered "Betty's Big Italian Sub" were quite helpful. She addressed often perplexing techniques such as how to put the two sides of bread and filling together to make a "closed" sandwich, and how to serve one sandwich to one person - spoiler alert: you put it on a plate!
It really was the best thing to put your post in perspective.

-and-

"which gives the impression, the illusion of much more filling. It's not really more filling, it just looks like it."

So you're saying chefs are flim-flam men? :P

bdwilcox: in real-estate, it's "location, location, location" With food it's, "presentation, presentation, presentation"

No flim-flam involved at all.

(ps: Yes, I know you were kidding)

Chef John,
Am a big fan here, ...but yikes! Was that a Sasquatch slicing the sandwich? Does the health department require you to wear hair nets on your hands?

Steve,

Yeah, I didn't know they made hand-shaped Chia-Pets either. :o)

Nice. Not as life changing as your chicken wing-eating demo but nice.

The big rumor in Pa. is that the Food Network is picking you up to do these vignettes on a regular basis. The first episode will be, of course, "How to Cut a Sandwich Like Bobby Flay", followed closely by "How to Cut the Cheese Like Chef John".
