Never worked with dates before, I assume they are quite common and not hard to find.
It's very cool chef John, i'm from Saudi Arabia we do make a lot of recipes with it, these dates that you have are called "ruttab" they are very sweet and they don't have much fiber, it's good in desert. You can make datecake or make a datepie with minced dates and Tahini sauce mix in with some pistachio nuts, it's easy and it taste amazing.
Try not to date yourself too much.
