Unfortunately I missed this episode of Big Idea when it originally aired. She seems to be one of the few foodies on TV who doesn't feel they have to apologise every 5 seconds about what they're cooking up, and actually looks excited about eating it when it's done!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7173052990851751381.post-33577467813471727332007-08-24T02:24:00.000-04:002007-08-24T02:24:00.000-04:00That host was kind of hokey, but I do love me some...That host was kind of hokey, but I do love me some Alton (no offense, Mrs. Brown!). I don't care for most of the food network stars, though I do like Nigela Lawson - never seen the show, but I've always liked her books - and Anthony Bourdain, who is like the culinary rock star.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7173052990851751381.post-39956374979295503452007-08-20T15:31:00.000-04:002007-08-20T15:31:00.000-04:00I LOVE Nigela Lawson. Not somuch to "cook' in, but for things like melting butter, defrosting sauasge I forgot to take out, and for the occasional popcorn i have no problem using a microwave.

As far as my vocation... I'm not sure. I think when I realized in highschool that you could go to college to learn to cook and then get paid for doing something I already did for fun...I guess that was it.Chef Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15030125427840815038noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7173052990851751381.post-47191053423221767712007-08-20T15:03:00.000-04:002007-08-20T15:03:00.000-04:00Even if I don't plan to do everything he says, it...Even if I don't plan to do everything he says, it certainly is fun and educational to watch his show.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7173052990851751381.post-35094830881228084542007-08-20T14:22:00.000-04:002007-08-20T14:22:00.000-04:00I enjoy many of the shows on Food Network, but Alt...I enjoy many of the shows on Food Network, but Alton is one of my favorites because I so love his presentation of the detailed culinary science.

BTW one of my least faves is the one that sounds like Bela Lugosi, Langella Feasts. And, How did you know that cooking was your vocation?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7173052990851751381.post-67090796177603942472007-08-20T11:19:00.000-04:002007-08-20T11:19:00.000-04:00Yeah, I'd have to say I enjoy your cooking videos ...Yeah, I'd have to say I enjoy your cooking videos more than anything I've seen on the tele. You've actually inspired me, and about 5 of my friends, to cook for ourselves more. We really owe you a debt of gratitude.

But since we're on the subject, Anthony Bourdain is my television favorite. Hey, we both love punk rock, what can I say? I really wish he would do an instructional show, but No Reservations is so educational and entertaining. I really love that show.

Mario Batali (Why the hell was Molto Mario cancelled?!) is my favorite how-to celebrity chef.

Alton Brown rounds out the top three. I use his method for cooking the perfect ribeye steak. I think he is at his best on Iron Chef and at his worst on season 2 Feasting.

He must not realize that he is coming across as egotistical when he gives knowing glances to the camera at the expense of locals who either do not know who he is or locals that do not "know things" the same way he does. (Hey I am a scientist, I know more than Brown does but I respect the home or back of the house cook/chef who is actually, you know, cooking.) You just do nto go into someone's home/kitchen and roll your eyes.

Without Brown, the network is just a place I point my PVR for ICA.

Thanks for sharing that video!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7173052990851751381.post-90295292524162264902007-08-19T12:15:00.000-04:002007-08-19T12:15:00.000-04:00My two favorites are Giada De Laurentiis and Alton...My two favorites are Giada De Laurentiis and Alton.
