Chef John's Computer Died

Sorry for the delay in posting the beef satay video recipe, but my iMac died this morning, and I've just been told Best Buy has to ship it out to fix, and that it will be three weeks before it's ready! I still have my laptop, but everything is slower, and the disc is almost full. I'm not happy. Bottom line: Video is coming soon! Thanks for your patience.

Buy a computer from a local business that can service your computer within a day or two. A few bucks more, but this is exactly why it's worth it.

John,

Is your laptop also a mac? You can buy a replacement hard drive for really cheap and its quite easy to replace in macs. I can walk you through it if you would like.

Also, were you using time machine to back up your imac? If so, you could restore that to your mac laptop and be back up and running fairly easily.

Let me know if you need any help. I like cooking, but do IT work as my day job.

I use Carbonite online/offsite back up. Found a coupon code that got me 2yrs for the price of one year.

My computer died and Carbonite restored everything but my bookmarked favorites and a graphics program I had downloaded.

This happened to me at our small printing business. Couldn't access any client files. Genius Desk at the Apple Store replaced the hard drive in a day and Time Machine restored it in about 2 hours. Like it never happened. LOVE MACs!
