Hot Off the Press! Ham, Cheese and Peach Panini

I've received what I consider to be an inordinate number of emails requesting sandwich videos. A sandwich video? Why would anyone want to watch a sandwich video?" Since the bread for my sandwiches is earned in large part from video views, these things have to be considered.

Well, a few things have changed my attitude towards doing a sandwich video. One would be the shocking success of the inside-out grilled cheese sandwich video (done mostly as a goof), which showed me that these things could put butts in the seats.

Secondly, I received a panini press from IMUSA that I really wanted to try out. I decided to create a sandwich worthy of such a test, and what you see here is the delicious result – a ham, cheese and peach panini, or as I now call it, my new favorite sandwich.

The lightly smoked h
am, sharp white cheddar, and sweet/tart peach preserves pressed between the crunchy, buttery bread was an absolutely stunning combination. I know I say this all the time, but I really hope you give this a try. Enjoy!

About the IMUSA Panini Press Grill

You know I don't do a lot of product endorsements, but once in a while I get to test something that I really like, and when that happens I like to share the info. For the record, IMUSA sent me this press free of charge, so you can take that for what it's worth. By the way, the letters going around the grill don't relate to anything, I just thought they looked cool.

This grill heats up quickly. It was ready to go in just a few minutes. There are no controls. It's on or off, so there's no guesswork with temperatures. Just put in the sandwich and check back in 5 minutes. That was it.

I also like that it's a flat, not grooved grill. You can argue the grooves make for a better appearance, but this model is clearly easier to clean (I just used a paper towel).

I don't like to look at product reviews until I've formed my own opinion, so after I finished the video I popped over to Amazon and saw that this model was very well received. That's what I expected, but it's nice to have my findings corroborated. For more info, here's a link to the product page.

Hey Chef John!

Lol! I must admit that I was slightly suprised when I saw your "Ham, Cheese and Peach Panini" post, thinking to myself "dear God, a PANINI POST???"

After watching though, I became pleasantly suprised... I don't know how you do it, but even a panini looks classy when you make it! Keep up the great work, and I'm really greatful and thankful that you post these delicious recipes for free!!!

Have a great day, hugs from Switzerland!

I love the idea of adding a fruity jam to a sandwich. I don't have a panini machine, but I will improvise by making a grill cheese sandwich.

Hello from germany! First time poster, too, but I have been lurking around foodwishes for a while now. I can honestly say, that have watched almost every single video - just skipping the seafood ones since I don't like fish, yes, shoot me, but that's just how it is. Your videos really impressed me - and they were helpful. Mostly because you really let people look into your pots. How many times have I wondered what the consistency of a sauce should be, too much liquid, not enough, it was driving me nuts.

Not anymore! And by the way - you could do a video about how to cook rocks and people would watch it anyway. I know I would! *laugh* Keep it up and I hope you have fun making these videos for a long, long time.

My boyfriend has made me sometimes sandwiches of gouda cheese (yeah he is Dutch) with cherry jam on them. They were omnomnomnom.

I guess in a way is like putting ketchup or so really.

Just recently found your food blog, thanks to my son. I've made the cured lemons and I'm waiting with bated breath to learn what I will be doing with them. I fixed the grilled ham, cheese and peach panini for supper last night, and it was to die for. I find myself at your blog more than anything else I do with my computer watching the videos, and now I find myself in the grocery store and the kitchen more and loving it.

Chef:

I'm a bit dubious about the way your pannini press tells you it's ready, though. I think having a light on would be better. I'd be concerned about someone thinking it was off and accidentally burning themselves on a hot press.

Other than that, it looks like it works As Advertised.

If it's plugged in, the red light is always on when the unit is hot. the green light going off, just means its preheated.

I'm glad to hear peaches and ham do go well together on a sandwich. It looks amazing in the video! I'm planning to try peaches, prosciutto and fresh mozzarella panini this weekend.

Can Ham, be under heated would this cause food illness?

How about chicken cooked of course but reheating as a panini does it re heat to the required temperature?

Thanks Andy

I recently discovered your blog and love it. I am going to make some recipies but I am afraid I'll increase the amount of salt and other spicies and keep the rest of the recipe intact. Actually I live in Pakistan and if you know how hot Indian/Pakistani food is, you'll understand why Western/europoean food tastes bland to us at times.

I love the way u explain and your videos are great.

Awsome as allways.
In my home town (Oporto in Portugal) we have on of the ultimate sandwich meal the "francesinha" it's a meat (steak, sausage, a kind of chourizo and cured ham) sandwich covered with cheese (later melted) with hot(veryyy hot) spicy sauce on top usually served with french fries, sunny side up egg or even shrimp. But the magic is in the sauce,is very hard to get a good sauce combination. It's a complete bomb and a tradicional meal here.

can i make this on a non stick pan on the stove instead? i have a sandwich press but it's not flat but sort of a grooved grill instead and it's not hinged in the center so the top might be brown on 1 end only if i use it.

Sure, you can just grill in a pan like a toasted cheese
