An 18-Minute Lecture on Spaghetti Sauce?

My buddy Lenny from ChezUs turned me on to this video lecture by Tipping Point author Malcolm Gladwell on the subject of spaghetti sauce and the nature happiness. I've used these TED Conference videos before when traveling to pick up the slack in content, and always find them fascinating. I hope you do as well. Enjoy!

Spaghetti is one of my favorite things to eat and the sauce is a big part of it. So, after years and years of going through all the different brands/styles from chunky to thick to extra thick to garlicy to you name it, I've finally settled on the one kind that began it all, the simple Italian version that was, according to this terrific video, the one the big companies thought was the be all/end all. So, they were right all along as far as I'm concerned, they just had to present a zillion different kinds in the meantime to convince me. But, that's just me.

His full article was in The New Yorker on September 6, 2004. Titled, "The Ketchup Conundrum". It's a great read.

I liked this video almost as much as Dan Barber's foie gras lecture.

The great thing about Malcolm Gladwell is that he's terribly insightful and entertaining at the same time.

The bad thing is that nobody of consequence - that is, able to make a difference - actually listens him.

Thanks for the very entertaining and thought provoking video. And I just wanted to let you know I received my freakishly small spoon, bbq sauce and rub all beautifully wrapped in a sheer little green bag. The thank you card was a nice touch...you two are so classy!

Thank you, Malcolm Gladwell! I'm sick up to HERE with Alton Brown's attitude that "there is only one way to eat a pizza." That's an obsolete and dumb way of thinking; the whole premise of "good eats" assumes that there's "bad eats." Well, maybe good eats for someone doesn't necessarily mean bad eats for someone else.

As I write this, Chef John, I'm baking a pizza using your "thin-crust" pizza dough recipe. And its crust is an inch thick. To a certain extent (and assuming that the food is prepared reasonably well), there's not a wrong way to eat food - just different ways.

Isn't it supposed to be "An 18-Minute Lecture on Spaghetti Sauce" not "a" ?
