Freezer Burns and Veggie Burgers

I've been featuring some videos lately from my fellow creators on Hungry Nation, and today I'm happy to continue that by introducing Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master, from Freezerburns.com.

I love the concept of Freezer Burns, as Gregory takes one for the team by taste testing all sorts of frozen products so you don't have to. This episode is all about vegetable burgers, a subject near and dear to my heart, as evidenced by my post "Meaty Mushroom Veggie Burger - The Least Terrible Veggie Burger Ever!" I've posted the video below, just in case you decide to forgo the frozen food aisle.

I hope you like The Frozen Food Master's Veggie Burger Frodown, and be sure to check out Gregory's great website for more information. Enjoy!

You can really SEE the pieces of mushrooms in this. That's a plus, at least. I'm not too excited when people try to make foods look and taste like something it's not. I'm not too geeked up by all the Halloween foods either - stuff that looks like eyeballs or whatever. Gross!

I quite like some of the burger chain veggie burgers. We made burgers out of beans once. They were awful. Curiously our children who were quite young at the time wolfed them down. I guess kid's will eat anything that looks like a burger. I will have to give this one a try.

Thanks Chef.

I eat mostly vegetarian because I feel better when I do. I say that to assure folks when they read my comment that I'm not anti-vegetarians.

That said, there are two things I don't understand. If you're going to give up meat, why do people still feel the need to find fake meat substitutes? If you miss meat then eat it. Otherwise own your choice to eat natural foods and quit trying to get everything to taste like meats.

Secondly, why is all of this "healthy" food so expensive, including organic fruits and veggies. It should actually be cheaper because they aren't using all the chemicals.

There's such a push to "go green" and eat organic but it's all Big Business Brainwashing. Doing these things should make things LESS expensive not MORE expensive!

Hey John,

Much as I love your site, I have to say your forgot one thing this time: the recipe and ingredient amounts below the video. ;)

Can't wait to try it out! I'm guessing that using whatever varieties of mushroom you like won't hurt?

Hahaha, great frozen burger video -- as a 12-year vegetarian until about a year ago, I knew this is exactly how the contest would go! Morning Star Farms makes food that is pretty tasty. Boca anything, I would not even feed to a dog or a cat (not that they would want it). Amy's and Boca are both old-school originals that were able to survive until now, but have not really improved or modernized their food along the way.. and it shows when you attempt to eat it.

I was suspicious about how "much like meat" the Morningstar Farms patty was according to Gregory. I looked up the ingredients of all four burgers on their respective web sites. The ingredient list on the Morningstar patty was appalling. I wouldn't feed that to my cat much less eat it myself. The best ingredient list was Amy's followed by Gardenburger.

I think I'll just stick to turkey or a yummy homemade blend like Chef John posted.
