National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day!

I heard that Friday is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, and what better way to commemorate than by making this epic version of America's favorite sandwich? Hopefully most of you have seen and made this before, but just in case, here you go. Enjoy!

Great sandwich! I love grilled cheese and have always liked the crispy cheese that leaks out. What a wonderful idea to purposely put cheese on the outside. I can't wait to try this.

I may not have done inside-out grilled cheese, but I made sure to celebrate with local asiago & cheddar!

I mix a little Gruyère with the cheddar to give a little stringy, stretchy pull from the sandwich to the mouth.

I just wanted to say though there are huge companies like Kraft that make a processed cheese product and call it American Cheese, there are still companies that make actual honest to God real American Cheese.

Thanks for the recipe! I only had light wholewheat bread and semi-mature Dutch cheese in my kitchen when I was in the mood for this and it worked just fine. Only next time I'll try it with olive oil intead of butter (or a mixture of both), as it was a bit too saturated for me. I think I'll also add a light smear of mustard for a little kick (but still wondering if thatt's a good idea).
