The Iranians Have Crossed the Line and Must Be Stopped!

All this talk recently about possible military actions against Iran has been very troubling. I hoped our recent history had served as an important reminder of the benefits of diligent and effective diplomacy. But, recent events in Tehran have changed my attitude, and I think we may need to respond with force.

What has me all worked up? Iran is trying to set the world record for longest sandwich! A team of chefs in Tehran, mostly women forced to cover their hair, and not for sanitation reasons, have reportedly built the world's longest ostrich sandwich. You can watch the report below.

This is an outrage, and I will not bury my head in the sand, and pretend this affront to our entire culinary identity didn't happen. Sorry Iran, but long sandwiches, and other grossly oversized fast food is our thing.

Luckily, the hungry crowd attacked the sandwich and ate it before its length could be officially recorded (true) - like an episode from whatever the Iranian equivalent of the Simpsons is. You know, maybe we are not so different after all.

Israel has taken immediate retaliatory action by building the world's tallest corned beef on rye.

What would the smallest sandwich be? I'm thinking "sliders," but there has to be a better candidates.

(by "sliders," I mean the little hamburgers that White Castle serves).

Hello John

Thank you for covering that event, It WAS great and delicious and if you were there(like I was) you'd reconsider in your phrasing(ppl attacked the sandwich...) I'd liked your website more if you would leave politics out of it. I really like your recipes, videos, etc and I appreciate all the work you put together for this, but Please leave those nasty things(like politics) to where they belong to...

Thanks though and keep up the good work. Me and many others in Iran appreciate your website(blog) a lot :-)

Regards
Yaser

Thanks! The entire post was a satire, and the phase "attacking" had no violent or military connotations. Here, when we "attack" a buffet or picnic spread, it simple means to vigorously and quickly grab the food. No offense intended. And, we will get this record back...it's all we have left.

I've actually had ostrich once!
It was in a stew, simular to a Beef Bourguignon, and tasted like a beautiful mix of chicken and beef.
Delicious!

hey Yaser. Chef John meant the whole post as a joke. And as far as the political comments here and there, I got four words for you. This is his blog!

Hi John, even if your post turns out to be about food, it doesn't look that way at first glance and I found it quite offending for Iranians, the way you wrote it. If I was from Iran, jokes being made about taking military action against my country coming from a US citizen would not be so hilarious for me when I'm checking food posts. I wish you wrote it differently. I support the sandwich competition, though :)
